Two Texans are the first members of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) to receive Specialist Member (SM) recognition. They are Stanley Domel of Austin and Albert Kern of Georgetown.

In addition to the new SM recognition, RSES has long had a Certificate Member (CM) exam, covering a general knowledge of HVACR, and Certificate Member Specialist (CMS) exams, each focusing on a specific area of the industry. To take a CMS exam, the highest recognition in RSES, a member first had to pass the CM exam.

Now, the new SM designation is given to a member who passes any of eight SM exams. Then, if they eventually take and pass the general CM exam, their status within RSES is upgraded to CMS.
