The wireless text messaging function of the FleetDirector, a fleet tracking system, has been enhanced. According to the company, drivers now can send free-form text messages to the dispatcher or fleet manager from their message data terminal (MDT) in their vehicle, allowing instant communication of data collected in the field back to the main office. Previously, drivers could only send preprogrammed messages or limited, basic, five-digit numeric text with FleetDirector. The FleetDirector system gives fleet managers and dispatchers the ability to view the location of the vehicles in real-time on maps on a computer screen. Dispatchers can send drivers free-form text messages with instructions or questions to the driver’s MDT, which sits on the vehicle’s dashboard.
