The SMA-12 step motor actuator is designed to diagnose problems in systems with step motors, the company says. Settings for the step rate are 1, 50, 100, or 200 steps per sec, and the actuator will stroke the motor in both the open and closed directions. In the event of controller failure, the unit can be used manually to open or close the valve, or to step the valve to any position. The actuator is a basic troubleshooting tool for all systems operated by step motor valves, says the manufacturer.
