Software Allows HVAC System Analysis, Troubleshooting Over the Internet

SEATTLE - Optimum Energy LLC has announced the introduction of OptimumHVAC, software applications that the company says allow analysis of HVAC system performance and remote troubleshooting, in real time, over the Internet.

“With regards to the environment, OptimumHVAC represents the defining force behind the method in which intelligent software impacts a building’s ability to operate in the most efficient manner possible,” said Nathan Rothman, president and CEO of Optimum Energy. “The value of the software applications lie in their ability to collect, analyze, and report a facility’s operating data in real time which allows building operators to remotely troubleshoot with Optimum Energy’s team of engineers anytime, anywhere.”

Developed over a three-year time span, OptimumHVAC is intelligent software based on patented technologies residing in a microprocessor-based control appliance that hooks up via Ethernet to a building automation system (BAS). The appliance is said to be brand agnostic, allowing it to talk to any BAS, and can be installed by any licensed mechanical or controls contractor.

By tracking building performance remotely, OptimumHVAC measures and verifies equipment operations and savings on both a real time and historical basis.

There are two delivery options for OptimumHVAC. The first, OptimumLOOP, targets buildings with centrifugal chiller plants. Through the use of variable frequency drives (VFDs), says the company, OptimumLOOP saves between 30 and 60 percent of the total chilled water system energy usage, as well as cuts water consumption by up to 13 percent.

The second delivery option, OptimumTRAV, is designed for buildings with variable air volume (VAV) air-handling units. For full implementation benefits, installation of VFDs on air handlers and direct digital controls (DDC) on all VAV terminal units is required, the company says, which allows OptimumTRAV to save HVAC energy usage between 25 and 40 percent while realizing reductions in both heating and cooling costs as well as electrical and gas usage.
