"Inconsistent practices in inspection and maintenance of HVAC systems is common in the building industry," said Bob Baker, chair of the committee writing the standard. "As a result, systems frequently operate outside optimum performance, without providing the energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and IAQ they were designed to provide."
This proposed standard is open for public comment until Nov. 6.
ASHRAE Standard 160P, "Design Criteria for Moisture Control in Buildings", goes beyond prescriptive recommendations for moisture control in buildings that are currently in the ASHRAE handbook and in building codes. It is intended to standardize the results of computer simulation tools that have been developed to predict thermal and moisture conditions in buildings. This proposed standard is also open for public comment until Nov. 6.
