SMACNA Arizona To Sponsor Seminar For Building Inspectors

Leaders in the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning industry are sponsoring a free seminar for building inspectors designed to provide insight into identifying approved procedures for fabricating and installing HVAC systems.

The Arizona chapter of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA Arizona), the Phoenix Sheet Metal Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC), and Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA), Local 359, in cooperation with the International Training Institute for the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Industry, are working together to provide instruction on various topics specifically related to the industry.

The free, daylong seminar will be held June 3, 2005, at the Phoenix JATC, 2534 E. Adams St. in Phoenix, beginning at 7 a.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 602-734-0214.

The coursework will focus on helping inspectors recognize the importance of establishing methods of inspecting HVAC components. Proper inspection is critical to safety, health, and comfort of the general public and serves as an acknowledgement that quality workmanship is essential in terms of operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.

Carol Goguen, executive director of SMACNA Arizona, said it is extremely important for inspectors and quality control personnel to be informed and periodically updated on technological innovations and installation procedures taking place in the sheet metal, heating, and air conditioning industry.

"Ultimately, the inspectors are providing the assurance that such works are in compliance with established codes and standards," Goguen explained. "And in doing so, serve as the consumers' protector in terms of value and quality workmanship."
