"Compliance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004" will take place on Sept. 13-14 in Elk Grove Village, Ill. The seminar will guide participants through the history, intent, and application of Standard 90.1, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Building.

"Engineers will gain knowledge in how to apply the standard to specific engineering challenges," said instructor McHenry "Mack" Wallace Jr., P.E. "Architects will discover the impact of their decisions concerning envelope and lighting. Code officials will receive a better understanding of the history and intent of the standard, allowing them to make better decisions about building energy usage and compliance. Building owners will benefit by becoming more aware of the standard as it relates to cost justification and how application will save dollars throughout the life of the building."

According to ASHRAE, the 2004 standard was significantly revised. The resulting document is said to offer a more readable format that is easier for practitioners to use. New technical requirements and stringency levels are presented in a more consistent format, making them easy to find and apply to building designs, the society said.
