Sept. 17, 2008: Siemens Introduces Building Automation System Based on BACnet

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. - To expand the capabilities of its independent controls contractor channel, Siemens Building Technologies Inc. announced that it is introducing a new version of its TALON building automation system based on the open BACnet protocol. With BACnet, says Siemens, TALON offers advanced integration capabilities and a comprehensive set of tools to ease design, installation, and commissioning.

For years, TALON dealers have offered the LonTalk protocol. Now with BACnet, says the company, contractors and integrators have even more flexibility to meet building owner and consulting engineer requirements. According to Siemens, the key to TALON’s versatility is the broad array of integration drivers that enable precise HVAC system management as well as tightly integrated control of security, fire, and lighting systems and building operator-friendly management capabilities.

The TALON View Workstation provides a dedicated workstation to manage and control an entire building. From here, the user can monitor equipment, schedule and modify operations, run reports, and link to other workstations. TALON system controllers are BACnet certified and compliant, providing full featured control of a variety of HVAC equipment with flexible I/O. In addition, wireless sensors are available with the system to make retrofitting simple and cost efficient, says the company.
