Sept. 13, 2005: Dow Donation Helps Keep Skaters On Ice

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Dow Chemical Company has announced the donation of 22,000 gallons of LIQUIDOWâ„¢ liquid calcium chloride to help keep a world-class speedskating rink in Roseville, Minn., in operation.

Dow made the donation to the Friends of the Oval Foundation for the renovation of the John Rose Oval, official training center for U.S. Speedskating and host of several national and international skating events, including two World Championships for juniors and two World Cups. The John Rose Oval is just one of five 400 meter refrigerated speed skating tracks in the United States. It is also utilized by many local hockey teams and the public.

The donated LIQUIDOW liquid calcium chloride will be used to refill the Oval refrigeration system in the Roseville Skating Center, after it undergoes repairs later this fall. LIQUIDOW remains a free-flowing liquid at very low temperatures, making it an excellent refrigeration fluid for use in maintaining good quality ice, says the company.

"As the world's largest producer of calcium chloride we are pleased to be involved in the renovation of a facility that serves Olympic hopefuls and hundreds of thousands of community members every year," said Gerry Matthews, Dow marketing manager, adding that Dow is working through its local distributor, Univar Inc., out of St. Paul, Minn., to coordinate delivery of material. "We are delighted to be helping with the John Rose Oval renovations and Olympic speedskating."
