WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that sales of new single-family houses were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 946,000 units in December, an increase of 6% over the revised rate for November of 895,000. This was the highest rate since March 2001.
A total of 900,000 new homes were sold in 2001, which was a new record, breaking the mark of 886,000 homes that was set in 1998.
