RSES Members Attend CO Training

Bob Dwyer, director of training for the Carbon Monoxide Safety Association, conducted a safety-training program for the Fox Valley Chapter of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.

ELGIN, Ill. - The Fox Valley Chapter of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) conducted carbon monoxide safety training for its members at the Elgin Community College in Elgin, Ill. To conduct the session, RSES brought in the Carbon Monoxide Safety Association (COSA).

Fox Valley chose this class as part of its weekend instructional and officer meeting program. The Energy Conservatory out of Minneapolis provided sponsorship for Bob Dwyer, COSA director of training, to conduct this safety-training program.

“It was another good group with great interaction from the attendees,” said Dwyer. “RSES International and several local chapters have asked me to bring this program to their educational settings and I am always warmly received by their employees and members who are dedicated to education. They certainly recognize carbon monoxide safety is an important part of their skill package and the COSA goal is that the information learned will result in safer, more efficient combustion systems and a reduction in CO poisonings.”

Attendees to this program received North American Technician Excellence (NATE) classroom hours and they were able to certify their retention of the information through the HVAC Excellence Carbon Monoxide Safety Inspector Exam. “Classroom time verification is important for technicians to prove their dedication to their occupation, and the written exam can help demonstrate their knowledge of the subject,” said Dwyer. “All that is left is for them to prove their certification by their performance on every job. You are only as good as the work you do and what you can verify through measurement.”
