FALLS CHURCH, Va. — The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors — National Association (PHCC) held its Leadership Conference on March 21-22 in McLean, Va. PHCC said that members and chapter executives were encouraged to be open to changing their leadership styles and ways of thinking to be successful.

Various strategies for effective leadership were presented by conference speakers, including keynote speaker Clint Swindall. Swindall recommended that PHCC members use a mixture of leadership styles and communicate effectively with employees. He also advised members to consider the generational type and work style of employees and adapt what is said in order to make an impact on each person.

The PHCC Educational Foundation sponsored a speech by Kirk Alter. Alter offered an approach to leadership that included gaining the trust and support of employees.

A chapter perspective on the issue was also presented at the conference. John Klesaris, founding president of PHCC’s new 495 chapter in Boston, stressed that chapters must provide exactly what members want in order to succeed. This can be achieved through membership surveys. Bill Curry, also from Chapter 495, talked about his perceptions of the traditional supply chain and ways PHCC members can adapt to the changes that are taking place.

The PHCC convention and the ISH North America trade show is scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 3 in Las Vegas.
