Pentagon Adopts Solar Water Heating

According to Thermo Technologies, the Pentagon has contracted the company to install the largest solar thermal system of its type in North America. Each of the five wedges of the Pentagon will be topped with 75.6-kW evacuated tube solar thermal systems. The combined total capacity of the 30 solar thermal systems will be 378-kW peak.

Maryland-based Thermo Technologies will furnish collectors, while Capital Sun Group Ltd. (Cabin John, Md.) will do the installation. Thermo Technologies is to monitor the systems’ performance for a period of two years from commissioning date. Pentagon facilities personnel will also be monitoring the system with their own instrumentation.
