Ohio Schools Reduce Energy Consumption With Trane Systems

January 23, 2006
In an effort to reduce energy consumption and to make necessary school building renovations, Marysville School District in Marysville, Ohio, has awarded Trane a contract to upgrade its existing HVAC systems.

Marysville School District has more than 5,000 students in five elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, and one high school, and employs more than 300 teachers and 200 support staff.

"Building on the success of our past relationship, we selected Trane's Tracer Summitâ„¢ building automation system because it creates an easy interface that will align utility equipment in all of our current buildings, ultimately allowing us to reduce energy consumption," said Larry Zimmerman, superintendent, Marysville School District. As part of the planned upgrade, Trane will supply the following.

  • Tracer Summit building automation system to provide integrated control of all aspects of the climate and lighting systems including the elements below.

  • One 140-ton and two 200-ton RTAC air-cooled rotary liquid chillers engineered for lower life cycle costs and reliability.

  • Nine 190-ton ice storage tanks to provide more than 20 percent of the ton-hours of necessary cooling on a design cooling day, and 50 percent on cooler days.

  • Two hot water boilers for efficient water heating

"Trane's Integrated Comfortâ„¢ systems approach to Marysville Schools' HVAC renovations combines the efficiencies of Trane products with factory-mounted controls and building automation to assure reliable comfort and reduced energy consumption with building management," said Pat Garibay, education and local government markets leader, Trane. "An integrated HVAC system is critical to establishing high performance schools that improve the learning environment while saving energy, resources, and money."

Over the past 10 years, Trane has supplied HVAC equipment and controls to the majority of the newly built facilities in the Marysville School District. Marysville Schools is rated "Excellent" on the State Report Card on Education, a top academic rating for Ohio schools.
