Contractors in the commercial and residential categories must meet the following eligibility requirements: They must be properly licensed by the state, city, and/or local municipality in which they operate; must have been a national member of ACCA for at least three years; are committed to quality, ethical standards, sound business practices, and improving the HVACR industry; are dedicated to skills training and professional development for all employees, particularly NATE certification; educate consumers about efficiency, quality, and safety of products and services, thus bolstering the public's confidence in the industry; advocate safety in the workplace; and are active in their local communities through donation of time, money, and/or services.

Making a formal management commitment to the training process for all employees; implementing in-house management and technical training programs for technicians, or by employing 75% NATE-certified technicians; conducting an ongoing process of quality review and improvement for training/education; or developing new training methods.

ACCA also presents the Spirit of Independence Award, which goes to an individual who has made significant and lasting contributions to the strength, success, and independence of HVACR contractors in the industry and marketplace. It is presented to a leader in the industry who goes above and beyond his or her call of duty in supporting and promoting ACCA.

The nomination form was distributed to ACCA members and is also available online at www.acca.org. The nomination deadline is January 17, 2003.

Winners will be announced and recognized at events scheduled throughout the 2003 ACCA Conference & Indoor Air Expo, March 12-15, in Palm Springs, CA.
