NEW YORK - Mark Skaer, senior editor atThe NEWS, won an Azbee, a national award in the 2007 Awards Competition of the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Skaer earned a national silver award in the “Feature Article - Newsletter” category. His entry included two articles which appeared on the front page ofThe NEWSin 2006: “Women Fight Uphill Battle in HVACR” (Sept. 25) and “Smoking & HVAC Systems: A Cloudy Future?” (Oct. 23).

ASBPE said its competition recognizes the hard work and commitment of business and professional magazine, newsletter, and Web editors and designers. The society’s contest is extremely competitive, with more than 2,600 entries. It is considered to be the largest U.S. business publication competition.

The national awards were presented at the society’s awards banquet, held Aug. 2 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with ASBPE’s National Editorial Conference.

Skaer has been withThe NEWSfor more than 10 years. He started as an associate editor in 1993 and was editor-in-chief 1999-2005. He has over 20 years of experience in the publication/writing field, earning a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications/Journalism. He also holds a master’s degree in English.
