CHANTILLY, VA — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) has made available free copies of the second edition of the “SMACNA CAD Standard” on its website,www. smacna.org. According to the association, the standard has been made available to improve electronic communication between members of the architect-engineer-contractor (AEC) community and for the overall quality of construction.

SMACNA also says that the CAD standard is designed to encourage consistency by building upon the second edition of the National CAD Standard (NCS), published by the National Institute of Building Sciences in 2001. The NCS incorporates the efforts of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its CAD Layer Guidelines as well as the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and its Uniform Drawing System, plus contributions from many other participating organizations.
