NEMA was created in the fall of 1926 by the merger of the Electric Power Club and the Associated Manufacturers of Electrical Supplies. The purpose of the organization has been to provide a forum for the standardization of electrical equipment, enabling consumers to select from a range of safe, effect, and comparable electrical products.
NEMA has also made numerous contributions to the electrical industry by shaping public policy development and operating as a central confidential agency for gathering, compiling, and analyzing market statistics and economic data.
“It is our privilege,” said Malcolm O’Hagan, NEMA president, “to pay tribute throughout the coming years to the contributions of the many volunteers who have developed these standards and to the manufacturers who have made manifest their innovation.”
The highlight of the association’s celebration will be NEMA’s 75th Annual Meeting and Leadership Conference this coming November in Washington, DC. Those interested in attending should contact Myris Dierlich at 703-841-3279.
