May 19, 2004: ARI Changes Name, Expands Scope Of Air Filters Section

ARLINGTON, Va. - The board of directors of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) has approved a new name and expanded scope for its Air Filters Product Section. It will now be called the Air Filtration and Ultraviolet Light Treatment Section.

"We changed our name in order to facilitate future growth and development of the section," said Eric Brodsky, chairman of the section. "Adjusting our scope to include manufacturers of ultraviolet light treatment equipment will help ensure that North American manufacturers of this equipment are positioned to be truly competitive in our global economy."

The renamed product section includes three subsections:

  • Mechanical Air Filter Subsection;

  • Electronic Air Filter Subsection; and

  • Ultraviolet Air Treatment Subsection.

    The product section oversees the development and maintenance of ARI Standard 680-93, "Residential Air Filter Equipment," and ARI Standard 850-93, "Commercial and Industrial Air Filter Equipment." Both standards can be downloaded at www.ari.org.
