The U.S. Marine Corps base in Twentynine Palms, Calif., has installed a 1.1-megawatt photovoltaic system. The system will provide approximately 10 percent of the base's electrical needs, and earned a $4.5 million incentive award from the state's Self Generation Incentive Program. The award was presented at the base by the Southern California Gas Company. Other solar power systems in California include a recently installed 191-kilowatt system at Pierce College in Los Angeles and a 1.05-megawatt solar power system under construction at California State University, Hayward.
