March 24, 2009: McQuay Is Building a Library of HVAC Object Models to Support BIM

MINNEAPOLIS - McQuay International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd., has introduced HVAC object models and content for building information modeling (BIM) design created in Autodesk® Revit® MEP 2009 format and available for download from McQuay at www.mcquay.com/McQuay/BIM/Revit-BIMFiles or from the Autodesk® Seek service at http://seek.autodesk.com/#query=search%5Enew%5Equery%253Dmcquay%25. Among the products with object models available are the Daikin VRV® III system and McQuay® water-cooled and air-cooled chillers, commercial rooftop systems, water source heat pumps, and packaged terminal air conditioners and heat pumps.

Using McQuay and Daikin object models and content allows design engineers to create a virtual building model - complete with parametrically defined graphic- and non-graphic information - that serves as a single, integrated source for the building’s design. In addition to object models, the McQuay content includes web links to full product specifications and PDF files of product designs and descriptions, giving design engineers a clear and accurate picture of placement and operating conditions. Also included are sample Revit equipment schedules that work with the object models, as well as instructions to get the most from the object models. A copy of the McQuay shared parameters file used to create the models, which includes Autodesk-endorsed universal shared parameters, is also provided and is needed for creating tags in Revit.

“We are committed to building a comprehensive library of Autodesk Revit object models and content for our HVAC products in support of our architect, design engineering, and contractor customers,” said Don Winter, vice president, Marketing, McQuay International. “We estimate that within five years, 80 percent of architecture and engineering firms will have switched from AutoCAD to BIM, and we are aggressively supporting that transition by creating object models of all Daikin and McQuay products and making them easily available for users.”
