March 18, 2003: Chiller Contractors Meeting Highlights Training

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Chiller Systems Group held its spring meeting March 6 and 7 here hosted by Chiller Services Inc. Forty-five representatives attended the meeting from contractors across the United States and Canada. The meeting featured a one-day factory visit and technical session at the Carrier chiller factory in Charlotte.

The spring meeting included the successful completion of several training classes. Mesa Energy conducted training for 20 members on the York water-cooled compressor. Trane conducted training for 30 members on the new Microprocessor CH-530. Carrier conducted three training classes:

  • Trained 25 members on compressor familiarization;

  • Trained 30 members on PIC controls; and

  • Trained 25 members on Carrier 17/19ER, XL, XR, and XRT operating fundamentals.

    Benshaw Corporation conducted training for 20 members on solid-state starters. Howden Buffalo conducted training for 25 members on Joy vaneaxial fans.

    According to the Chiller Systems Group, it is a network of independent contractors dedicated to knowledge sharing and training with the aim of providing building owners the highest level of chiller service. The Group seeks the cooperation of chiller manufacturers in providing training and technical information in a timely manner.

    The Group is comprised of 30 independent contractors who specialize in chiller systems service, with its members performing service annually on over 7,000 chillers. Meetings are held semi-annually to exchange technical data on chiller systems and manufacturers. In addition to the semi-annual meetings and training, members share technical information daily through an e-mail user group.
