Manufacturers for the Week: May 7, 2001

  • Last week, The U.S. Justice Department approved the purchase of Honeywell International Inc. (Morris Township, NJ) by General Electric Co. (Fairfield, CT). As part of the approval, the companies had to agree to sell Honeywell's helicopter-engine business unit and will have to take action to encourage competition. European regulators have yet to give their approval, which might come in July.
  • York International's Engineered Systems Group (York, PA) announces the divestiture of its Barlassina, Italy manufacturing facility to a European subsidiary of Electra Consumer Products Ltd. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. York also announces its plans to consolidate Barlassina manufacturing into the remaining facilities in Europe.
  • Unico, Inc. (St. Louis, MO), has added a heat calculator tool to its website that will help users determine how much heat loss or heat gain occurs in a house, and how many Btus are required to maintain a desired temperature. The company says the calculator allows for combining of average high and low temperatures within the home, plus its humidity, dimensions, walls, and windows, estimating average heat loss and heat gain.
