  • Carrier Corp. (Syracuse, NY) announces that it has acquired the hvac business of Climatic Corp., an independent distributor of Carrier residential and light commercial products headquartered in Columbia, SC. Climatic, a distributor of Carrier, Bryant, and Payne equipment since 1956, sells primarily to dealers and contractors with distribution and sales locations servicing South Carolina, Greensboro, NC, and Arkansas. The 175-employee company had revenues of approximately $100 million in 2000.
  • Lennox International Inc. (Dallas, TX) enters the Fortune 500 for the first time at No. 493. The 106 year-old company made its initial public offering on July 28, 1999. It reported record revenues in 2000 of over $3.2 billion.
  • The residential heating and cooling products of the York Unitary Products Group (Norman, OK) have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal. The Seal is issued to companies after their products clear the review and approval process of the Good Housekeeping Institute.
  • York Unitary Products Group also announces the promotion of Charles Thompson to the position of vice president, national accounts.
  • In addition, York Unitary Products Group names Team Air Distributing, Inc. (Nashville, TN) a distributor of York-brand heating and air conditioning equipment throughout central and eastern Tennessee.
  • Invensys Climate Controls (Plain City, OH) is presented a 2001 Bell Award from the Business Marketing Association. The company won a Best of Division award for its employee newsletter.
  • “Meet the Challenge 2001,” a new cash incentive program from CertainTeed Corp. (Valley Forge, PA), rewards both the buyer and seller. With every sale or purchase of the company’s hvac/mechanical insulation in specific quantities, the insulation distributor salesperson who sells and the hvac contractor who buys will receive a Visa debit card worth at least $25. With each additional purchase, additional funds will be added to the debit card.
  • Jakel Manufacturing Inc. (Highland, IL) is opening a plant in Piedras Negras, Mexico. The facility will be used for expansion of the company’s business, to produce two lines of 3.3-in. motors acquired from Emerson Motor Co. (St. Louis, MO).
  • Chase Industries Inc. (Montpelier, OH) announces that it has completed the sale of its Leavitt Tube Co. subsidiary, to the privately-held Pinkert Industrial Group, LLC, headquartered in Chicago, IL. The sale price was approximately $32 million, subject to post-closing adjustments.
  • Modine Manufacturing Co. (Racine, WI) receives a U.S. patent for a new engine-cooling fan. Patent No. 6,165,909, “Radial Fan,” is the brainchild of two engineers who work at Modine’s facility in Bernhausen, Germany.
  • Amtrol Inc. (West Warwick, RI) reports year 2000 results. The company had net sales of $197.5 million, a decrease of $24.6 million or 11.1% over the same period in 1999. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) were $30.0 million or 15.2% of net sales, compared to $38.3 million or 17.3% of net sales in 99.
