Quietside Corp. (Whittier, Calif.) has identified the source of the reported lockout problem with its QVM9 Combination boilers. According to the company, electrical interference that was generated by multiple cycles or rapid cycles of the unit’s ignition transformer and gas valve safety solenoid coils caused the microprocessor to block out commands from the thermostat. In response, an improved version of the FR5 thermostat has been manufactured and a thermostat exchange program, available through Quietside wholesalers, has been established.
