The XDK-W, a rack enclosure available in a nominal 25-kW rating, has been added to the XD family of high heat-density cooling solutions. According to the manufacturer, the enclosure with integrated cooling capabilities has been found to best fit applications in small to mid-size data centers that are less than 1,000 square feet or where the number of racks to be cooled is eight or less. It maintains the fluid temperature above the actual dew point to prevent condensation on the piping, enclosure skin, and IT servers. The enclosure also ensures isolation between the building chilled-water system and the water circuit. The unit utilizes water as the fluid to transport the heat out of the enclosure. It has a closed architecture and uses air circulation internal to the enclosure that is completely sealed from room air and environmental conditions. Server heat load is absorbed by the rack’s integrated cold water system through a high-efficiency air-to-water heat exchanger in the bottom of the rack. Redundant high-performance fans with temperature-dependent speed regulation drive closed loop air circulation in the rack’s interior, while servers are supplied with cold air at the front of the rack.
