The York model YK-EP Energy Plus centrifugal chiller has a capacity range of 2,500 to 3,200 tons of refrigeration (8,800 to 11,200 kW). It features a patent-pending, mechanical-compression economizer cycle which provides increased capacity and improved efficiency. According to the manufacturer, it is an ideal choice for large chilled-water plants. Off-design performance can be improved by adding a York OptiSpeed™ variable-speed drive. The chiller’s high-efficiency performance helps buildings qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) points in the Energy and Atmosphere Credit 1 (EAc1): Optimize Energy Performance category. The YK-EP chiller can qualify for the maximum LEED points in the Energy and Atmosphere Credit 4 (EAc4): Enhanced Refrigerant Management category. It uses refrigerant HFC-134a.
