Jan. 13, 2011: A Record 29 Student Chapters Enter 2010-2011 MCAA Competition

ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) announced that 29 student chapters submitted entries for the association’s 2010-2011 Student Chapter Competition, a new record. Each participating student chapter is vying to be one of the four finalists that will deliver oral presentations of their submissions at MCAA 2011 in Maui, Hawaii, on March 7.

This year’s project was a two-story, 15,000-square-foot office building that houses the headquarters of the CDC Venture Capital Investment Group, a fictitious name of the owner of an actual project that was built in Palo Alto, Calif. The competing chapters represent the following schools:

• California State University - Chico;

• California State University - Sacramento;

• Cal Poly - Pomona;

• Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo;

• Central Washington University;

• Colorado State University;

• Fairleigh Dickinson University;

A panel of three judges - all contractors - will evaluate each entry to determine the four finalists. Not only do the finalists receive recognition for their achievements, but cash prizes are also awarded: $5,000 to the winner, $2,500 to the second place team, and $1,000 to each of the other two finalists.
