Jan. 13, 2009: Upcoming Chicago AHR Expo Surpasses 2008 Show in Size

WESTPORT, Conn. - Despite the down economy, the 2009 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) is expected to be one of the biggest events in the show’s history. According to International Exposition Co., which produces and manages the AHR Expo, the 61st edition of the show has already surpassed the successful 2008 New York show in two key categories.

To date, over 1,900 exhibiting companies will display products across 395,000 square feet of space at Chicago’s McCormick Place. These totals surpass those of the 2008 AHR Expo held in New York City where 1,757 exhibiting companies occupied 363,405 square feet of space, both of which are Northeast show records and ranked among the top-five largest events.

Although the 2009 event may end up being smaller than the record-breaking Chicago show in 2006, show management is pleased that the recessionary economy hasn’t taken a bigger toll on this year’s expo. “We believe AHR Expo’s strength during these tough economic times reinforces the critical role the show plays in keeping the industry informed and updated on the latest products, technologies, and education,” said Clay Stevens, president of International Exposition Co.

Stevens added that visitor pre-registration is strong, which could make the 2009 event one of the top-five best attended yet.

In addition to displaying new products and technologies, the 2009 AHR Expo will offer 70 educational sessions and workshops presented by the industry’s leading trade associations on a variety of topics ranging from achieving sustainability and energy reduction to “best practices” and the latest trends and techniques in the HVACR industry.
