The Tempstar® PDX4 dual-fuel unit couples a heat pump with gas heating in one package. It achieves energy-efficiency ratings of 14.5 SEER, up to 8 HSPF, and 78 percent AFUE. The units monitor outdoor temperatures and switch automatically between electric power and fossil fuel to save homeowners money by using the more efficient fuel source. Available in 2- to 5-ton capacities, the new products feature R-410A. The units also contain high-efficiency GE ECM 2.3 indoor variable-speed fan motors. Defrost systems on heat pumps help keep coils ice-free for more efficient, reliable operation. The condenser coils have sturdy wire inlet grilles and UV-rated vinyl mesh installed on the surface of the coils for extra protection. These package units are designed for ground or rooftop applications and are shipped for horizontal installation, but can be converted to down shot.
