Solcoustic® duct liner is a nonfibrous product; no fibers are released into the airstream. It offers acoustic and thermal properties comparable to fiberglass and weighs one-half as much as fiberglass, according to the company. The airstream surface is coated with an immobilized, EPA-registered preservative that won’t support the growth of fungi or bacteria. The product is formaldehyde-free, eliminating some IAQ concerns. It can withstand temperatures up to 250°F. According to the manufacturer, the duct liner has been successfully tested for velocities up to 5,000 fpm (25.4 m/s), so it can be used in virtually any HVAC system. It meets ASTM C 1071 requirements for surface-burning characteristics, temperature resistance, moisture absorption, erosion resistance, corrosiveness, and bacteria and fungi resistance.
