News Staffer To Chair ASHRAE Subcommittee

BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Barb Checket-Hanks, whose name has long been familiar to readers of The News, has gained recognition within the prestigious American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The News' Service-Maintenance editor was nominated to chair Technical Committee (TC) 9.5's Programs and Publications Subcommittee. The TC covers residential and small building applications.

"I am deeply gratified by the appointment," said Checket-Hanks. "I am also very grateful to outgoing Programs Subcommittee chair Charlie Culp, Ph.D., P.E., for nominating me." Culp will become the TC's chair after the ASHRAE annual meeting in June, succeeding outgoing chair Glenn Friedman, P.E.

"Getting involved in ASHRAE has been a very important part of my professional development," said Checket-Hanks. "If you really want to stay on top of technical subjects that affect the HVACR industry, start by attending the ASHRAE meetings."

ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is an international organization of 55,000 people. Its sole objective is to advance the arts and sciences of HVACR through re-search, standards writing, publishing, and continuing education, to serve the evolving needs of the public.
