How To Decipher The Mass. Building Code

BURLINGTON, Mass. — Air Purchases Inc., an HVACR parts and equipment wholesale-distributor, has teamed up with the New England Chapter of Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA NE) and F.W. Webb to develop “Code Review for HVAC Contractors.” The three-hour class is intended to help contractors cut though the legalese of the Mass. Building Code and better understand of how it applies to the HVAC industry.

In addition to receiving an overview of the code, class participants will:

Learn the answers to frequently asked questions about the code;

Learn how to use the Mass. Building Code book;

Become familiar with forms and procedures associated with the code; and

Review the amendment process.

“The building code was written by lawyers to establish minimum standards for safety and integrity within a building,” explains Jim Travers, who is conducting the class on behalf of Air Purchases. “The way the code was written makes it difficult to comprehend, even for seasoned contractors.

“We designed this class to cut through the legalese and give contractors the information they need to ensure they are not only up to code, but that they are able to substantiate that fact in the event of a dispute.”

The class will be held July 29, 2003, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Air Purchases’ corporate headquarters (24 Blanchard Rd., Burlington). Registration costs $49 per student for ACCA members, $79 for nonmembers. Early registration is recommended. Call ACCA NE at 508-839-3407 or 800-244-8151.
