Henry Co.: Attic Barrier

The LiquidFoil™ attic barrier is a liquid-applied, low-emissivity radiant heat barrier. It is a very efficient radiant heat reflector that keeps approximately 80 percent of radiant heat out of the attic. Easy to install, it can be applied to interior attic and wall spaces, especially under roof decks and gable ends, with standard spray-application equipment, roller, or brush. Classified as an Interior Radiation Control Coating System pursuant to ASTM C 1321 and an ASTM C1371 emittance rating of 0.21, the attic barrier will not interfere with cellular phone signals or antenna reception. It does not require mixing Part A with Part B at specified rates and does not use aluminum powder (Part B) that can become airborne, creating a breathing hazard as it coats surfaces with unwanted shiny dust, the company says. The air barrier allows vapor to escape, which prevents condensation and moisture accumulation. In addition to blocking radiant heat, it also keeps warm air from escaping in cold weather. It is most commonly used in attics, wall cavities, metal buildings, and other buildings subject to high heating and cooling costs, as well as buildings with no HVAC system and buildings for which installing insulation is impractical. It can be applied to drywall, masonry, concrete, ceiling tile, plaster, and previously painted surfaces.
