Habitat for Humanity Home Dedicated

ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland - On Oct. 7 during a special dedication ceremony held in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the Alvarez family received the keys to their new home from Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) Chairman of the Board Russ Morgan (IPEX Inc.). The home is not quite complete; however, the family is expected to move into the home in late November with comfortable hydronic heating. The Alvarez family includes Javier, Sandra, and their children Daniella, Laura, Maria Alexandra, and Paloma, as well as Sandra’s mother Lenor.

More than 100 people attended the dedication ceremony including Morgan, CIPH president and general manager Ralph Suppa, the Newfoundland Region Board and members, Habitat for Humanity volunteers and various media.

“I am proud to state that since 1994 CIPH members have taken a leadership role in addressing the need for affordable housing by providing $6.3 million in both cash and products to Habitat for Humanity. This CIPH home is the start of a new life for the Alvarez family where they can feel safe and the children can grow up with pride and dignity,” Morgan said.

Following the ceremony, over 75 people attended a special pig roast hosted by CIPH as a thank-you to the many volunteers who gave their talent and time to the build.

“Since being selected, the Alvarez family have been working hard to contribute towards the 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’ to the construction of their home. CIPH Newfoundland Region is pleased to be part of the build to help them achieve the dream of owning their own home,” said Ron Neary, CIPH Newfoundland Region president.
