The TECMate XL™ is a troubleshooting device for field-testing the GE ECM variable-speed motor. ECM motors are used in one of three modes: thermostat mode, variable-speed mode, and digital serial interface. The TECMate is capable of identifying a motor failure vs. other HVAC controller failures in all of these modes, the manufacturer says. The device plugs into the ECM’s 16-pin connector and operates the motor independent of the system, the company says.
