Feb. 8, 2012: First Northwest Authorized Dealer Is Named for Nest Learning Thermostat

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Evergreen Electric & HVAC announced that it is the first Northwest authorized dealer of the Nest Learning Thermostat, a new product that earned the recent Consumer Electronics Show’s (CES’s) Best of Innovations Award in Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology.

More than 20,000 new products were launched at CES in Las Vegas, but one device deserves special attention, according to the owner of Evergreen Electric & HVAC, Byron Hatley.

“Get ready for the ‘smart thermostat,’” said Hatley. “Former Apple executive and iPod hardware designer, Tony Fadell, and co-founder of Nest Labs, Matt Rogers, developed a thermostat that not only saves homeowners energy, but is capable of learning the daily routines of a household and then adjusting accordingly.”

There are many instances where homeowners do not understand or properly use programmable thermostats, noted Hatley. The Nest Learning Thermostat is said to be capable of learning the daily routines, schedules, and preferences of a family and adjusting the climate control to conserve energy while they are away.

“Many people don’t realize that 45 percent to 65 percent of their entire utility bill is from their HVAC,” said Hatley. “This new thermostat can save users up to 30 percent on energy bills, increasing comfort and saving energy at the same time. At that rate, the Nest Thermostat could easily pay for itself within a year or two.”

The Nest can also connect to a home’s WiFi network so the homeowner can control the temperature for their home from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
