MoreARLINGTON, Va. - The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) has announced new dates for its Educational Program for Instructor Certification (EPIC) training.
EPIC classes certify HVACR professionals to teach residential and commercial heating and cooling system design principles using standard-setting manuals and materials from ACCA’s Environmental Systems Library. The upcoming courses are both residential sessions and attendees can select one of two three-and-a-half-day classes: April 20-23 or Aug. 3-6. Each offering of the class will take place at ACCA’s headquarters in Arlington, Va.
ACCA said this is a “train the trainers” workshop, designed for those who already have considerable exposure and familiarity with HVAC design procedures. Graduates include contractors, vo-tech teachers, systems designers, utility personnel, wholesalers, and others who are committed to teaching the ACCA load calculation and system design procedures.
Participants will receive an ACCA certificate of completion upon passing a comprehensive take-home exam based on the material taught during the course. The residential certificate qualifies participants to teach ACCA manuals J and D, as well as Manual S.
Each residential EPIC student receives with registration a copy of each manual covered, as well as worksheets and forms for manuals J and D, and psychrometric charts. For this residential course, students will receive Manual J (Residential Load Calculation), Manual D (Residential Duct Systems), Manual H (Heat Pump Systems), Manual P (Psychometrics), Manual RS (Comfort, Air Quality and Efficiency by Design), Manual S (Residential Equipment Selection), Manual T (Air Distribution Basics), Manual 4 (Perimeter Heating and Cooling), Manual TT-102 (Understanding the Friction Chart), and Duct Calculation Slide Rule.
The course is taught by Hank Rutkowski, P.E., ACCA’s technical consultant, who has been teaching EPIC for more than 30 years. He is the author of ACCA’s technical design manuals. He has also worked in the HVACR industry for almost 40 years as a consulting engineer, college professor, and technical writer.
The EPIC training is NATE approved for 30 hours of continuing education credit. Tuition does not include food or lodging and is priced at $825 for ACCA members and $925 for non-members. For more information, visit www.acca.org/EPIC or call 703-824-8840.
