EPA Honors Manitowoc as Energy Star Partner of the Year

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Manitowoc Foodservice as a 2010 Energy Star Partner of the Year for its contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing energy-efficient products and helping to educate consumers about those products.

Manitowoc Foodservice, a partner since 2001, was honored for its leadership in manufacturing products that earn the Energy Star, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency.

In acknowledging the recognition, Manitowoc said that in 2009, new product development, product line extensions, and existing model upgrades “increased our Energy Star portfolio by approximately 140 models - an increase of over 50 percent.”

Mike Kachmer, president of Manitowoc Foodservice, said continuous research and development was essential to developing products that support future sustainability efforts.

“We’re not just selling an ice machine or fryer; we’re going beyond to address customer needs such as energy conservation, operating efficiency, and culinary R&D. It is an honor to have our on-going efforts recognized by the EPA.”

The 2010 Partner of the Year Awards are given to manufacturers and retailers that successfully promote and deliver Energy Star-qualified products, saving consumers money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Manitowoc said in a statement. Award winners are selected from more than 17,000 organizations that participate in the program.

“EPA is recognizing Manitowoc Foodservice for taking the lead in addressing climate change through their commitment to energy efficiency,” said Gina McCarthy, EPA assistant administrator for air and radiation.

“Manitowoc Foodservice brands are producing and promoting products that have earned the Energy Star, showing customers that together we can increase our nation’s energy efficiency and reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases.”
