Wind Power Program Is Needed, Study Says

According to a study published in the journal Science, the United States should make a major investment in wind power to support the nation’s energy supply and address global warming. Stanford University engineers prepared the study, which states that the perceived low cost of producing electricity from coal fails to offset its health and environmental costs, which the study estimates at between 2 and 4.3 cents per kWh. They recommend that the federal and state governments encourage wind energy through direct investment or tax credits.

New England States, Canada Agree On Climate Plan

Governors of the New England states and premiers from eastern Canada have agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their region. The officials adopted a Climate Change Action Plan to increase energy efficiency, increase use of renewable energy, and decrease the impact of transportation. Groundwork was also set for a regional system of trading greenhouse gas emission credits. The agreement was reached at the annual Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers.
