The Milli-Damper™ MVG Series millivolt vent and flue dampers improve the efficiency of gas-fired appliances by relying on electricity generated by the appliance itself, not by an outside electrical source, to operate the damper, the manufacturer states. The company says the damper prevents residual heat in the appliance from escaping through the exhaust vent after the main burner shuts off, allowing the appliance to use more of the energy from combustion gas. According to the company, because no external electrical hookup is required, the dampers are easy to install and service and will continue to deliver heat or hot water even if there is a power outage to the building. When properly installed, the dampers’ electrical circuits are designed not to override any existing limit or safety controls on the appliance, the company states.
