The Adjustable Flow Deviceâ„¢ (AFD) is an in-duct system for regulating fabric duct airflow and static pressure. The AFD is a polyester mesh cone with a factory set or field-adjustable hemmed drawstring aperture for air balancing all of the company's fabric air dispersion models. According to the manufacturer, the unit reduces in-duct turbulence at outlets or fittings, stages inflation, reduces abrupt startups, and balances airflow and static pressure in trunk lines and branch ducts. It is also designed to reduce maintenance requirements of static flow straightening devices. Designed for retrofits and new installations, the system can be installed or replaced for laundering in minutes by zipping or unzipping its collar between duct lengths. It is available in diameters from 6 to 72 inches, as well as custom sizes.
