Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham unveiled the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Smart Energy Campaign on July 9. The campaign highlights a variety of smart energy-use initiatives targeted at homeowners, consumers, and businesses.

The announcement included a number of activities, including DOE regional energy summits, a public education campaign, a Smart Energy Tour by Abraham, and the introduction of a new government Web site, www.energysavers.gov. The event followed the DOE’s Natural Gas Summit held with businesses, natural gas producers, and conservation groups several weeks ago.

According to the DOE, demand for natural gas is expected to rise by as much as 50 percent over the next 25 years.
