WASHINGTON, DC — The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the availability of $700,000 in funding for feasibility plans and studies for the installation of renewable energy projects at Native American tribal colleges and universities.

The funding, which will be awarded competitively after a national competition, will be provided for projects to be completed in 2001.

“We want to combine the energy-producing capabilities of renewable technologies with the educational opportunities available in working with the hardware,” said Dan Reicher, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Proposals will be accepted only from tribal colleges and universities and they must be integrated with educational programs.
