Des Champs Laboratories: energy recovery

The RT3 is an energy recovery, rotary air-to-air heat exchanger. The heart of the unit is a rotating honeycomb matrix con-sisting of a molecular sieve desiccant, permanently bonded to aluminum. The unit typically recovers 75% to 80% of both the temperature and moisture contained in the exhaust air, says the company. The recovered energy is transferred to precool and predehumidify outdoor air in the summer and to preheat and prehumidify outdoor air in the winter, thus reducing summer a/c loads as well as winter heating and humidification loads, the company says.
