ColdShield is a thermal barrier designed to protect surfaces from heat damage during soldering, welding, and brazing. According to the manufacturer, typical applications include protecting valve seals and seats during soldering, protecting soldered joints from loosening when soldering new joints, and preventing distortion of metal caused by heat. It is noncorrosive, nontoxic, and is 100-percent biodegradable, the company says. According to the manufacturer, it is available in a 32-ounce spray bottle, which allows for convenient application of the product in hard-to-reach places, and a wide-mouth jar, which contains a thicker formula of the product, for higher-temperature applications. It can protect materials such as metal, wood, plastic, rubber, wire, insulation, and drywall, the company says.
