Carrier Donation Catches National Spotlight

Carrier Corp.’s Residential and Light Commercial Systems (RLCS) North America business unit presented a Carrier automatic standby generator to the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic on NBC’s Today Show.

The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic has served Native Americans in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area for more than 30 years by providing medical, dental, optometry, pharmaceutical, and community services.

Being part of the Today Show gave Carrier an on-air opportunity to highlight its products and receive national exposure. Co-host Al Roker was on hand for the presentation.

The focus of the segment was on power outage concerns and the value of standby generators. It was noted that the National Weather Service estimated that 3.5 million U.S. homes lose power for an extended period each week, and that every year U.S. businesses and homeowners report $80 billion in losses due to interrupted electrical service.

Further, it was said that U.S. electrical consumption is growing at a rate estimated to be four times greater than the ability to generate it, putting considerable strain on the country’s power grid.

For its part, Carrier said it offered a number of automatic home generators, ranging in size from 7kW to 150kW. These generators are capable of providing electric power to a few select circuits or the entire home, restoring power automatically during an outage. Carrier automatic home generators are powered by either natural gas or liquid propane, eliminating the need to refill a gasoline tank.
