SHENZHEN, China - Carrier Corp. announced that it will renew the sponsorship of the China Ozone Layer Protection Awards Program, which is hosted by the State Environmental Protection Administration of China (SEPA). Carrier will also continue to provide financial support for the awards from 2006 to 2008.

This program was co-initiated by SEPA and Carrier in 2003 to recognize individuals and organizations in China that have made outstanding contributions to ozone layer protection.

John Mandyck, Carrier vice president for government and international relations, made the announcement at the 3rd China Ozone Layer Protection Awards presentation ceremony, held in south China's Guangdong Province.

Mandyck and Xu Qinghua, director of international cooperation of SEPA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding of the three-year cooperation between Carrier and SEPA.

"Carrier commends SEPA for addressing the critical issue of ozone protection through this innovative recognition program," said Mandyck.

Each award winner was presented with a gilded plaque and a certificate issued by SEPA.

During the award ceremony, Zhang Lijun, vice minister of SEPA, and other senior Chinese officials presented two Special Gold Awards and four Gold Awards to organizational and individual winners. Shenzhen Municipal Government and Jilin Provincial Government were granted the Special Gold Awards. The winners of the Gold Awards included the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, organizing committee of the 29th Beijing Olympic Games; Liu Wei, reporter of China Environment News; and Fan Yuansheng, deputy party secretary of SEPA.

A total of 21 individuals and organizations have received the awards since the program was introduced. Carrier China Operations won the Initiation Award at the First China Ozone Layer Protection Awards in 2003.
