Attic Tent: Attic Stair Insulation Cover

The Attic Tent is a specially engineered, patented insulator designed to create an air transfer barrier between a residential attic and living areas. It is designed to insulate and seal folding attic stairs, knee wall doors, attic scuttle holes, and full-size doors (up to 35 inches wide). The unit reduces air loss and can save homeowners money on their energy bills, says the company. The Attic Tent also provides safe and easy zipper accessibility into the attic. It is available in seven sizes. The cover comes fully assembled and installs in minutes.

Attic tent does not meet Building Codes

Mark Tyrol
August 30, 2011
Attic tent does not meet Building Codes. 2009 IECC Section 402.2.3 and 2009 IRC Section N1102.2.3 reads: "Access hatches and doors. Access doors from conditioned spaces to unconditioned spaces (e.g., attics and crawl spaces) shall be weatherstripped and insulated to a level equivalent to the insulation on the surrounding surfaces." Attic Tent is R-3, but a minimum of R-30 to R-49+ is required! Battic Door makes an R-50 Kit to insulate attic stairs that meets all Code requirements.
