Hot Dam! heat stop compound can be applied to pipes to protect valves and other components from excessive heat during soldering and brazing. It molds like clay to any shape and can be removed and reused. According to the manufacturer, the compound works equally well with Mapp gas, propane, arc, or oxyacetylene welding on all ferrous and nonferrous surfaces. It is nontoxic, so the user can handle it without any special precautions, the company says. It's stored in a 3/4-pound container.
